Oscar de la Renta sent a model down his Bridal Spring 2013 runway wearing pants and a crop top Monday.Taking his cue from one of the most notable trends to come out of the spring 2012 ready-to-wear collections, the designer teamed the ab-fab trend with the traditional.
Designer's banded together in support of the midriff during the spring shows in September, with retro-style bras worn as tops making multiple appearances. Often paired with a pencil or flared skirt, a la Sophia Loren or a latter-day Bridgette Bardot, or they were seen in crop tops teamed with slouchy, relaxed trousers for a sporty feel. Oscar de la Renta echoed the trend in this relaxed and modern, yet simultaneously elegant and classic silhouette.
While it might not conform to your more custom and accepted bridal get-up, this look is just one of the many fashion-forward, less-traditional, trends coming out of this season's Bridal Fashion Week. Unorthodox was a prominent theme throughout the Oscar de la Renta show - there were baby blue tiered tulle skirts, a scarlet red chiffon gown and a pastel printed floral dress covered in sequined embroidery.
Every other look told a story of either grandeur or tradition, with voluminous, princess-worthy gowns walking right next to corded Chantilly lace and elaborate lace-trimmed cathedral veils.
